Spinning the Wheel of Life
Many times, people will want to do more and achieve more in life. Climbing their ministry ladders, career ladders etc, but yet very often they do not count the cost.
Our lives is never just revolving around ourselves, it involves our family members, love ones, friends, the people around us, the career we have, the way we manage our finances, the environment etc. Everything moves in a cycle and got to be in balance of each other. (Try to imagine it k, just like a plate balancing on a stick.) The over focusing or adding pressure on any one of the areas will cause the cycle to lose its function. It starts by slowing the whole cycle down and soon it breaks it all.
Every step upwards on any one of the areas, symbolizes a new level of expectations to meet, commitments to keep and responsibilities to hold. The sudden stepping up one area will also cause an imbalance to the cycle, hence there is a need to adapt to the stepping up very quickly. The best way to keep the balance is to constantly be stepping up on every area so that it helps the cycle to be moving as well.
Before you desire to go up to the next level in whatever you are doing, think about this:
1) Am i managing well with the expectations on me in this area right now?The expectations from the one placed over us will always be higher then our own expectation of work. This is so in order to allow constant improvements to be made. It is only when the people above you have a higher expectation that what you can deliver you are constantly pushed to improve your standard of work.
So stop complaining that the person placed above you got expectations from you because it doesn't benefit the person for having expectations on you. When the expectations are not met the person still need to manage his/her anger and disappointment towards you. The expectations are placed there to help us be better. Until you stop complaining about the expectations above you and start working towards them, you will not be able to manage with the EVEN HIGHER expectations in the next level.
2) How committed am i to the commitments i am keeping rite now?
The commitments we have taken up through the times will only become more and more. Its not about getting rid of them, but to be keeping them and learning to enjoy them. Once you are able to enjoy doing it and committing to it with passion, it will no longer be considered as a commitment that you have to keep. It moves from committing to having it as part of your life.
If all you are doing is TRYING to stay committed and barely keeping to the commitments in your life or in that particular area, you will be so torn when more commitments comes along as you goes up to the next level.
3) Am i responsible over the things that authority is given to me?
Authority comes as we take responsibility. So are we taking up the rightful responsibilities over the things that we are given authority over or do we push the blame to others when something goes wrong. A leader never blames the member when they make mistakes for the first time because the leader have failed to teach them how. A pilot will not leave the crashing plane until all the other passengers have safely landed. Everything rises and fall on leadership.
You will only go up to the next level with more responsibilities added unto you, until you learn to take charge of what you are given. If not you will just be juggling with all the responsibilities in your hand, trying to catch each one before they falls.
*REMEMBER: It applies to EVERY AREA of our lives wor... Our family members, love ones, friends, the people around us, the career we have, the way we manage our finances, the environment etc. The reason why you MIGHT not be moving up to the next level is also directly and indirectly caused by the stagnating in the other areas... the ONLY way to keep the plate balance on the stick is to spin it~! =)
