From the beginning

From The Beginning
When we were very much younger, we are not so good in many things. But yet in those times, though 'our pockets may be empty', skills may not be zai but our hearts are filled. Filled with passion, zeal and a desire to do something great in the kingdom of God.

Maybe it was easier for us to remain humble during those times because of our inadequacy and lack of knowledge. But as the times goes by, when we become more zai, have we lost the passion to be a servant? the kind of zeal to prepare and ensure that there is a standard of excellence in our service or ministry? have our skills and knowledge about the 'know-how' caused us to puff up with pride, that we no longer heed advises; tinks that we are way above the rest; and can put other people down? have we forgot how we all started off, elevated ourselves above others and have challenged the higher authorities?

One thing we all need to realize is that, we are not the main character in the story. God may use us greatly in the kingdom of God and have given us certain responsibilities, authority and privileges above others but that is for us to SERVE more and shine FOR HIM, and not for our personal glory or fame.

John, the baptism, was someone who knew his position and who is he in the kingdom of God. He knew that he is never the main character, he was there to prepare the way for Him who is to come. When Jesus came and the disciples turned and followed Jesus, John was not anxious, jealous or prideful, thinking that he is more experienced. Because John did such a good job in preparing the way, speaking the truth, many believed in Jesus went He visited Jordan even after the dead of John.

Just like John, we are called to go and prepare the way. So what is our position? TO PREPARE THE WAY! We are never the main character because God is. No matter what ministry we are serving in, we are to prepare the way. Example:

Song leaders, choir, muzos and CG leaders, when leading praise and worship, the main focus should always be ushering in the presence of God. So when the presence of God is there, we need to learn to flow and allow God to move in the midst and touch the people instead of talking non stop. We need to learn to decrease so that God can increase.

Even ministries like the technical crew, lighting, video and photography, it is not just about going through the technical things behind the stage. But flowing with the anointing and the Holy Spirit to give shoots that will captivate the hearts of the people, showing what the Lord is doing in the midst of the service.

Ushers, bookstore, greeters etc are people who are at the front line. People gets their first impression of the church by either receiving a smile or seeing some people who had their face soaked in sour prickle juice that morning that turns them off.

Everyone of us plays a very important role in allow the Lord to move in the midst of a meeting. We are to PREPARE THE WAY. Until we know that that is our focus and God is the main character, we will stop being bothered by whether we are better than others; what is other people's calling; whether we got a certain position or post etc.  Because we will know that we have our destiny in God, just where we are. The level of our excellence will not be determined by our moods. Instead, just like how we have started, we will serve with the passion, zeal and all we want is to do more and with the spirit of excellence to GLORIFY GOD.
